The Making of WTF Extreme Wrestling

Table of Contents

Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at "WTF Extreme Wrestling." This project started out of sheer curiosity and boredom—I wanted to see if it would be possible for me to make a simple wrestling game. What began as a basic prototype has slowly evolved with each update, and this post documents that journey.

The Core Idea

The goal for "WTF Extreme Wrestling" wasn't to create a complex simulation, but to build a fun, accessible wrestling game. I wanted to capture the feel of classic arcade wrestling titles with straightforward controls and engaging action. It was a personal challenge to see if I could build a functional wrestling system from the ground up, from movement and grappling to signature moves.

The Development Process

This game is a true "Work In Progress Demo," as the title on itch.io suggests. The development has been an iterative process. I started with the absolute basics: getting two characters in a ring who could move around. From there, I've been adding layers with each update—a simple grapple system, basic strikes, and rope interactions. It's a step-by-step journey of building a game from its core foundation.

Each update is a new piece of the puzzle. The feedback from players on itch.io has been a huge motivator, and it helps me decide what to focus on next. It's a project driven by passion and the desire to one day make it a real, full-fledged game.

Art and Sound

The visual style is simple and clean, designed to be readable and to keep the focus on the action. I wanted the characters to be distinct and the ring to be an iconic, recognizable space. The sound design is currently basic, with placeholder effects for impacts and throws, but it helps give weight to the in-ring action.

The Future of the Ring

"WTF Extreme Wrestling" is still very much in development. I have a lot of plans for it, including more moves, more wrestlers, and more refined gameplay mechanics. The ultimate goal is to take it from a WIP demo to a complete game that wrestling fans can truly enjoy. Thank you for following its evolution!
